Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel García Márquez (better known for Love in the Time of Cholera and One Hundred Years of Solitude) tells exactly what its title suggests: the tale of a death foretold. Set in a small Latin American town, it details the events leading up to and following the death of a young man, a death that everyone in the town was aware was going to take place.

This novella is fascinating in its otherness, the ease with which the ending is told in the very first sentence, but still the tension built up as the set of events leading to the death are gradually revealed.

A quick and thoroughly interesting read.
