Gentlemen of the Road

Michael Chabon, 2007
Michael Chabon's novel Gentlemen of the Road tells the story of a pair of highwaymen in the Middle East, near what is today Turkey and Khazakstan, during the late Middle Ages.
While the writing is somewhat superficial, and lacks the depth and insight to make a great novel, I found this an interesting read because of the setting. It gives some sight into a world and cultures of which I know next to nothing, an interesting alternative to the very Western European knights-and-swords common to the genre.
A light, quick read, pleasant but not brilliant.
