I have known about The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel for as long as I can remember, and it has always intrigued me. Having finally read it, I can say it was well worth the wait.
A prehistoric epic set in the last days that Neanderthals shared the world with Homo Sapiens, this incredibly well-researched and detailed novel paints a fascinating and rich cultural world, one at the same time immensely far removed from our own and yet also poignantly similar. Against this backdrop is a plot that is gripping and drives the book relentlessly forward.
I find myself eagerly looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
